Lean, Clean and Green

A weakness with environmentalist movements is the language used. It sounds more like we are trying to destroy the planet than save it. It sounds like we want to dictate to people what they should do. It sounds like we want to overthrow and rarely have I seen a list of advantages. The only one ever presented sounds so drastic, so extreme, that people are not drawn towards it. Sounds more like a threat than a promise.

Your planet will not be destroyed, your species gets to survive.

Well here is another list and another brand.

  • We are not climate activists, we are we are climate saviours
  • We are not extinction rebels, we are sustainability gurus
  • We are not tree huggers, we are lean, clean, green innovating machines.
  • We are not entitled snowflakes, we are people of all generations
  • We are not revolutionaries, we are evolutionaries. We just need to do it in a BIG hurry.
  • We are not dictators, we are motivators.
  • We are not alternative, we are mainstream (at least I think it should be mainstream to want to save the planet)
  • We do not want to tear down, we want to build up
  • We are not alarmists we are informers
  • We are not climate strikers, we are climate innovators.

Saving the planet is all the inspiration I need but let's make out a list.
  • OK. Let's starting by with having a planet and saving our species in there. That's a nice bonus.
  • Cleaner air
  • Less wild fires.
  • Cleaner lakes and seas
  • Less species going extinct
  • Less pollution due to fossil fuel extraction
  • Cheaper energy in the long run.
  • More jobs.
  • Less damage due to extreme weather
  • lower insurance costs
  • Less people living in crises and less refugees.
  • A more sustainable economy as we are not reliant on a finite resource
  • Less impacts to the economy as oil price fluctuates very easily.
  • Less corruption. The fossil fuel industry leads to corruption in many of the countries where it is located, mostly because of political and monetary agendas interfering with genuine agendas. Some of the countries with the largest oil reserves are relatively poor with long histories of conflict and war (Nigeria, Iran, Iraq,  Venezuela and Libya are all in the top 10). Moving money and reliance out of the oil industry into a more sustainable source would mean less political agendas being played out in these locations.
  • Less wars: Number of wars over solar and wind farms in the middle east stands at zero.
  • But most of all, we get to be proud of our generation. We don't need to be afraid of the question, what did you do when the global heating started to spin out of control.

We are climate innovators. Let's Innovate.
